Anyone out there who has a disability knows the immense challenge of becoming comfortable with who you are. It is a journey that involves a constant battle with doubt, self-hatred, and painful memories that resurface unexpectedly. Regardless of whether you were born with the disability or acquired it later in life, accepting and embracing it is an ongoing struggle. However, there are individuals who not only come to terms with their disabilities but also push beyond these boundaries, redefining what can be accomplished despite being disabled.
On the outskirts of Amsterdam, The Only Friends Sports Center Wheelchair Basketball Team serves as a shining testament to the indomitable spirit of individuals with disabilities. It is a place that goes beyond a mere sports center; it is a haven where people of all ages, bound by similar challenges, come together to have fun, play basketball, and deconceptualize the limitations imposed by their disabilities.
Each member of this remarkable team serves as a living testament to strength, stamina, determination, and sheer willpower. They propel themselves beyond the confines of their physical limitations, defying expectations and accomplishing feats that once seemed impossible.

During my two month long experience with the team, I worked to create a photo series that told two stories simultaneously. The first story is the story of the Only Friends Sports Center Wheelchair Basketball Team, and the time effort and joy they bring to the world of sports. The second story is hidden behind the first but look behind the scenes and a deeper story will appear. It is a story that all people share, the struggle to overcomes ones limitations, and to move forward towards the next challenge.
